Josh aged 17 began his apprenticeship role with us in September 2019 as an Apprentice IT Support Engineer at our site at Discovery Park, Kent. Since then, Josh has worked across various aspects of the IT platforms, including networking, wireless technologies, telephony, antivirus, hardware builds, software installs and general day to day support issues for our client base, both onsite and off.

Working hard towards completing his apprenticeship syllabus and the exams set throughout, Josh also completed training with various teams, and we are pleased to share the good news that we have offered Josh a full-time permanent contract ahead of qualifying from his apprenticeship in March.

Following on from his apprenticeship, Josh will become a 1st Line Engineer, with many aspects of that role overlapping with 2nd Line functions. This will further enhance his skillsets, enabling him to work on future projects across all teams.

Josh Sullivan said: “I’m pleased that I chose the apprenticeship route as I’ve had the opportunity to receive training from industry experts. Since starting my apprenticeship I have had the chance to work on our managed business parks and customer sites and have been lucky enough to get involved in some interesting projects. This has given me insight to the early planning stages, through to implementation and going live. I’m pleased to accept a full-time position before completing my apprenticeship and I’m looking forward to a long career at Communicate.”

Mark Styles, Network Infrastructure Manager at Discovery Park, Kent said: “Having supported many school work experience placements over the years, it was pleasing to offer Josh an apprenticeship with Communicate. We cover all aspects of IT throughout our divisions across the UK, allowing Josh the opportunity to have exposure to many real hands-on experiences. Over the last 18 months it has been fantastic to see Josh develop from an apprentice to a 1st Line Engineer. All of this has added to his confidence and ability to adapt to the ever-changing IT industry we live in today.

“We have always been great believers in the apprenticeship route as it gives young people the opportunity to train on the job whilst completing their academic studies, which is invaluable especially in our industry.”
